HOAX BREED Border Collie SEX Male AGE 18 months Another obsessive modern day Border Collie. His owners previous two dogs had also been Border Collies but they hadn’t had the ‘working dog’ traits we so often see in today’s dogs.
|
|
Hoax was an aggressive, jumping and wriggling fruit cake. As he sat in the back of the car when he arrived at F.A.I.T.H. he continually bit his owner as she reached for him. He would often bite her, he was also very protective of his food. Hoax has come a long way in the few weeks that he has been here, but is still ‘work in progress.’ It is possible that he may become a fully balanced dog. Until then he is living with Claire and her two other dogs, Tyan a B.C cross and Dylan, a working B.C both of whom had behaviour problems which are now contained and controlled. If he had gone to the right home with the right guidance and leadership, where his brain was put to use, then Hoax may not have become a red zone case. |

RYE BREED Border Collie SEX Male AGE 4 years He is sound sensitive, but this is now under control. However in his two previous homes, this was unwittingly pandered too and he became totally mad! Frightened of every sound in the house and unable to settle down anywhere in it. He would not go out for walks either, as the outside world also petrified him. |
|
Hundreds of pounds were spent on animal behaviorists and dog trainers, all to no avail. The TV was only ever on low volume, so as not to scare him, and all the furniture was pulled away from walls so that he couldn’t get under or behind it. Chocolate drops scattered up the garden path in an effort to get him to walk to the gate. In our view rewarding him for being unstable. Everyday he would add something else to his phobias. If he was not trying to run away, digging through walls, doors and floors. He would stand in a corner in a fixed trance. Rye and his owners ended up on tranquilizers. Rye has been here for a year now. Living in the house as part of the dog pack, his behaviour is normal (though he retains some collie traits) In the right home he will stay this way, balanced and happy. Enjoying life both at home and on his walks, which he loves. He needs a home with other dogs and strong leadership. He will quickly revert into an unbalanced, obsessive stressed state should his new owners let him down. |

About Border Collies Border Collies are obsessive dogs. Yes they are intelligent but this can border on madness. Like a mad professor, if their mind is not occupied problems will arise. Many will inherit the ‘Collie eye’ - a fixed stare. Useful in moving stubborn sheep perhaps, not so good when transferred to children, joggers, cars or even light and shadows. They are quick to nip, again useful for moving sheep with their woolly fleece to protect them, not so good for people and dangerous when aimed at cars. Yes there are Border Collies that are great pets, but too many are destroyed simply because their owners think that it was the dog at fault (not them) and because they had chosen the wrong dog for their circumstances. Most of today’s Collies will need to be more than just a pet. Use their brains or they lose their minds in most cases. If you have had the dog from a puppy and it has behaviour problems. The blame lies with you. You either chose the wrong breed or went about training the wrong way. If you want a puppy so that you can train it yourself, think, “Am I capable of training it?” Maybe you would be better off with an older dog, one that has lost it’s home through no fault of it’s own. |

BEASLEY Guard dog home only! Beasley is soft with everyone he knows, and he knows many people. But this strong dog would not be suitable as a house pet. He might look strong but he can also look silly too, as you can see from the 'sun in his eyes, catching flies' (bottom right) |
DANDY Typical of his breed, needs an owner that knows Terriers. Good on and off lead. OK with older children, and most other dogs. Not good with cats.

LOUIS Needs to be only pet. Not to be homed with children. Travels well and is good both on and off his lead. |
|
OLLIE Ollie is friendly and is good with other dogs. Would not home with cats. Good on the lead, travels ok and house trained. He is very loyal and would need an owner that understands this breed, although he is a big softie, this powerful breed does need an experienced owner. Because he was a stray with an unknown background we would not home with younger children than teenagers. |

SADIE Sadie can act as an over-grown puppy with her family, to whom she will be devoted. However, she is very guardy and anyone taking her on needs to be aware of this. She may act like a puppy but this is just her intelligent way of avoiding commands. Needs experienced GSD owner. |
|
SECRET BREED Foxhound Secret is good with older children, other dogs and cats. Has only ever been a second dog and enjoys dog companionship but would also be happy with just human company provided she wasn't going to be left. Needs a loving home in her twighlight years.

SWIRL Not a family dog, does not get on well with other dogs. Very loyal to one person, has bitten when been alowed to become over-protective of her owner. She is good off the lead and enjoys the freedom of the Rescue with a muzzle on, happily following her favourite staff member about. |
